How to Start a Team
In The Church Building System we talk a lot about TEAMs, because “Building the Church” is all about building people, and growing into well-functioning teams. Ultimately we are a part of one Team — The Body of Christ — that is made up of many parts and many teams that must all work together. But where do these teams even come from? You can’s just go to a store and buy one; you can’t order one online. How you start something is important. The 5 Steps in “How to Start a Team”

Identifying Leaders
Some believers have a healthy desire to be a leader and patiently wait for the offer/opportunity, because they want to be ready for it. Mature believers know that leadership requires some serious emotional, social, relational, and oversight skills, so it can be wise in any case, to start with learning to become more skillful in leadership, before stepping into more responsibility. A leadership office isn’t something to be earned or claimed; humility is required for healthy le

Leader Responsibilities: 6. Analyze Results & Reflect with the Team

Scriptures: Exodus 18:22-24; 1 Chronicles 13:1-2 A Leader must review proposals , then redirect or approve proposals with the team. It is the leader’s responsibility to give direction and the team’s responsibility to propose solutions.

Leader Responsibilities: 4. Request Proposals from the Team
Key Word: Decision Answers the question: How are we going to get there? Scriptures: Acts 15:35-36 A Leader must request and receive proposals from the team. Just as God will speak to the leaders about what He wants and where He wants them to go, He will speak to teams about how to get there. When a leader and a team are functioning well, the leader is giving direction and the teams are submitting proposals to the leader. Do we believe God’s wisdom flows through our team me

Scriptures: Colossians 4:1(TPT); Acts 11:29 A Leader must disciple the individual and team toward success. Teaching and training are foundational to discipleship. Discipleship takes place inside the

Leader Responsibilities: 2. Assemble & Build Teams
Key Word: Discernment Answers the question: Who are we going with? Scriptures: Acts 6:1-7 A Leader must assemble and build teams of diverse and qualified leaders that can meet regularly. God doesn’t want us working alone; He wants us working in TEAMS. When Jesus started His public ministry, what was one of the first things He did? He built a team. He was led to specific people, and after a season of training, He commissioned, equipped, and empowered them to Build the Chu

Leader Responsibilities: 1. Clearly Communicate Vision & Direction
Key Word: Direction Answers the question: Where are we going? Scriptures: Exodus 18:20; Mark 1:17; Habakkuk 2:2-3 A Leader must receive vision and direction , then clearly communicate that vision and direction to the team. This might mean God’s Vision, Mandates, or Assignments that He has for a church, ministry, or a team. It could be a simple goal the leader has for the organization or team. This could also be a certain culture we want to establish—something like being on

The 6 Main Responsibilities of a Leader
We used to have just one team in one place. Today we have multiple teams in different places. This caused us to change how we function as leaders. Now we focus on training others who will train others. As Paul instructs Timothy, those things we’ve heard and learned, we must “ entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also ” (2.Timothy 2:2, ESV). Every organization needs more leaders and these leaders need to know how to function in both the systems and cultur

The 6 Main Responsibilities of a Team
Every organization needs teams that work and function well together. For God, Teams are a priority. When He created man in Genesis, He made sure man was not alone. When He walked the earth as a man Himself, He built a team of disciples. Jesus is the Head of the Church, and Believers are part of the Body of Christ. Team isn’t just an important concept, it is who we are created to be and what we are created to function as. As such, we should know how to operate well as a team.

The Importance of Becoming a Team
Both a group and a team must have something that brings them together: for a team it is a common purpose and commitment

Steps to Start a Team
Here’s an overview of the 5 Steps in “How to Start a Team”, which we like to refer to as the “5 x Es”.

DO - LEAD - BUILD
“In whom the whole building , being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:21-22, NKJV Leaders generally enter a position of leadership based on some kind of achievement. Usually, promotion comes based on what he/she has done and accomplished. However, being a great doer , doesn’t automatically mean you will be a great leader ; that’s a totally different ability.

Delegation Expectations
There may be a lot of misconceptions floating around about the purpose of Delegation and how to Delegate. Effective Delegation sure isn’t just dumping tasks on others and then walking away. It’s not micromanaging either. Here at TCBS we approach Delegation as a vital step in leadership and team development — it empowers the team and develops the leader. It’s an important part of our “Intentional Growth Path”. Delegation is the intentional transfer of tasks and responsibility

Being the Church

Not all leaders are created equal
This is not talking about character or commitment but more calling, position and possibly timing.
