GAP Assessments

Many times we find a complete overhaul of a project, team, or system, to be too overwhelming and may not even try to start. But if we can evaluate one area, or identify one main target to focus on, we can start moving forward in the right direction. With that momentum, it feels more natural to take additional steps.

A Gap could be defined as an area of lack, frustration, or need, or an obstacle we face. When we identify a Gap in context of where we are and where we want to be, then we can better clarify a next step to address it.

A Gap Assessment can just be done in your head or written out as a few bullet points.

  • Where are we now?

  • Where do we want to be?

  • What is hindering us from reaching that goal?

  • What is a next step we can take to overcome the obstacle and move toward our goal?

We also have a Gap Assessment tool that can help you walk through this process. Pick an area in which you may already be feeling some frustration and fill this in. It is a great skill being able to channel frustration toward something helpful and productive.
